my macbook pro keeps saying no mountable file systems

i have a big problem.... everytime i try to download an app from apple.com.... it says no mountable file systems.... this happens with anything i try to download... im runnnig mac os x version 10.5.. with a 2.2 GHz intel core duo... if that helps any.... please mac experts.. can u lend me a helping hand
