my macbook wont shut down. it keeps saying "finder failed to quit' or "safari has failed to quit'. all it does is remove the top control bar( file/edit/view etc..) i have tried the control + eject command but it comes up with the same message.

i installed macfreepops earlier, it didnt work properly. could this have screwed my macbook?

please help!

Hi,

you can do a hard shutdown, by holding down the power button until your Macbook is off.
Then reboot and try to shut down normally to see if the problem persists.

Hope this helps.

Holding the power button down for about 5 seconds should still shut it down.
You might want to repair permissions once you restart as well.

ok wicked. i will do that. before i do, what is repair permissions?

thanks.

To repair Disk Permissions, open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app) select your hard drive in the list on the left and click Repair Disk Permissions.

Check out this article over at Apple to see what it actually does.

If the thing gets nasty and it really will not shut down, it will eventually run out of battery, or you can take it out yourself if you are in a hurry. But stick with the power button method.

i shut down with the 5 second hold, now im back on its working great again.

seriously the people in this forum are really helpful, no matter how small or big the problem.

thanks guys.

Okay this is really simple. All you have to do is go to the apple menu button and then click force quite and then quite everything and then try to shut down your mac... That happened to me before.
Its super easy once you know what to do.. Its not complicated at all.

Ummm, he already said the "force quit" didn't work.

Yeah this has happened to me once before and it really annoys me.. I just hold down the power key.. force quit wont quit those stubborn apps..

Then once i restart I run TechTool Deluxe, does this repair permissions and everything automatically for me? I think it does, not sure.. I would rather TechTool Deluxe do it for me than me do myself.

If all else fails try this
