It occurred to me the other day of how I could review how often I've posted to Macrumors since I first joined in April 2005. I have nearly 5,000 posts (almost to 601 status!) and thought this was plenty of data to show off trends.

This didn't take too long to do, although it was tedious. I used the advanced search function on the site to search for posts by my screen-name. I then copied the entire text of the page from those searches and pasted them into Excel and parsed all of the dates and times of those posts. Note: I have the Firefox extensions Auto-Pager that will load multiple pages onto one page so that I didn't have to click between 20 pages of a search.

I was able to get dates from about 4500 of my posts, I understand why 500 are missing but its not a big deal (unless you want to do this yourself). Check out the plots attached, I did an area plot for my yearly plots so you can see it more clearly.

Some easy trends to explain include: May '08 when I got a temporary ban, as well as August 2011. I wasn't being very nice so I tried cutting down on posting and even now don't really post that much. I was feeding the trolls a little too much.

Hmm. Interesting. Would be cool if MR had a page where it did this to you (Say, in your CP), but, I can see how that'd be difficult to do.

I think it'd take too long for me to do, with no benefit :p.

Looks like you're slacking on Sat and Sun. Need to step up your posting on the weekends!! MR is far more fun than other recreational pursuits, after all.

Simple solution: just join a WW game, and before you know it you'll be posting at all sorts of awkward hours! :p

Oh, yes, a heart-felt fervent amen to that. You can sing it......WW gaems in MRville mean that - sometimes - you end up going to bed thinking of WW games, and then waking up wondering (apart from Real Life issues) whether or not you have survived the night......

Except for my nights.

But yes, join a WW game, that'll get you lots of posts.
