Dear All,

This morning I received a call from my family... they told me that the screen of my MBP, sitting peacefully on the desk, with its lid closed, was completely broken by fallen objects from the top of my shelf :-(

The "lucky" part is that the harddisk seems to be intact, as the machine can still boot into mac os x (through the very small part - about 1/4 of the screen which has not been broken), i will try to connect it to my HDTV to backup everything thru time machine tonight...

and I probably have to go to buy a new MBP after work tonight :( as Apple Care surely doesn't cover this tragedy...

Mine was a 2010 MBP 15" 2.66GHz i7...should I go to by the new top MBA or the 2011 MBP? :(

would you feel comfortable purchasing a screen and replacing just that?

just something to think about ... beats shelling out for an entire notebook.

Yeah, seriously, get a better shelf and just take it to Apple so they repair it, it will cost you a bit more but I think the Apple care will still be working for the future.

Wow...sad to hear that. My late-2009 13" MBP had a 130lb person fall on top of it. Made it out lucky though, it only shattered the protective glass covering the screen. $75 replacement from eBay and like brand new again.

If u r ok with a small screen, get the new Air. Plus, judging by the benchmark scores, the new Air is just as powerful and ur "dead" MBP.

If I ever had the chance to replace my machine, it will be the MBA 11"

ur machine is a very good machine...! don't try to find an excuse to buy a new comp! LOL

i think you should replace the screen and use ur current mbp for another 2 yrs... :)

save ur money!

take it to an apple store and be honest tell them the 100% truth.

bet you money it gets replaced FOC :)
