So I was having problems tethering my phone to my Mac. I get the message when I try to connect that "The selected communication device does not exist. Please verify your serttings and try again."

So I go to "about this Mac" and it tells me "No information found" There is no Bluetooth icon in my system preferences. I know they changed the lay out of system prefs but is Bluetooth not it's own icon anymore?

I broke my trackpad and that is my fault. I was waiting to get it in to the Apple store. I am worried they will say because I broke the trackpad that somehow I broke my Bluetooth. The trackpad was broken by a impact and there is no liquid damage to my MBP. A coffee cup (empty) fell on it.

I called Apple care about last week and they couldn't help me at all. Couldn't give a price, a time estimate on repair or even tell me if the entire unibody needs to be replaced or just the trackpad itself. It seemed to me once they knew it was damaged by the user and not their obligation they lost all interest.

When you call Apple care do you think they look at your purchase history vs. how many repairs and issues you have had? I have only had one bad experience with an iMac that was declared DOA awhile ago. The keyboard that came with it was also dead. Other than that my iPhone cord became frayed and was replaced. I have bought 6 Macs in the past 2 years.

I am very happy that I tried this now as when I go to Asia this winter no Bluetooth would be the ultimate fail. When I first used this MBP the import didn't go well at all and I wasn't able to use software update, MSN. and some other things. I really don't want to try another system install to eliminate the possibility that some driver is missing or corrupt or whatever.

Are there support files anywhere on my Mac to check and see if this is software related? Should I be a`ble to search something in the finder and if found that would make it clear I have support for Bluetooth? Please, don't let me be the last guy to find out that in Apple's quest to take over the world Bluetooth went the way of Firewire.

Ugh between my iPhone having Bluetooth and not being able to be used and my MBP which should have it but doesn't I am beginning to become frustrated.
