So it all started about a month ago, when I did a System update on my macbook pro 2.66 core2duo (early2009, model A1286) after installing the OS update my machine restarted just fine, but the next time i went to start it, it just hung on the apple logo log in screen forever, so i used my boot disc and repaired the OS, then a week later reinstalled the update, same thing happened, my machine would hang on the apple logo screen at start up for over an hour.. Boot disk used again.

haven't updated since.

Now recently I have been playing with Quartz Composer and Resolume Avenue, and I've had resolume crash on my 3 times, with just one clip loaded, and one Quartz Composer patch, seems weird, cause the QC patch is one of the ones that came with Resolume, so I'd assume that it's working OK.. for those not familiar with Resolume, it very rarely crashes, with that small load it shouldn't crash at all. I've been using that app for years, and a few friends also use it. it's very very stable. But it can be heavy on HDD transfer bandwidth, (contemplating just replacing the hard drive just to get a 7200 rpm..)

I suspect a bad hard drive, so I used this http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php everything show's as OK with my HDD.

any idea what direction i should take to continue with my testing?
