My MBP won't play DVD'S! I have checked the system profiler "ATA" but it says "This system does not contain any ATA devices. If you have any ATA devices installed, please check that they are connected and powered on." I have reset the PRAM too, and tried force quit on the Finder. What do I do?

Don't look under ATA. "Disc Burning" should be an option in System Profiler. If you click on that, is the SuperDrive detected? Also try other media that's not DVD. There's a likely chance that you do have a bad SuperDrive that may need replacing.

Thanks, it says "MATSHITA DVD-R" which is a good sign. I tried a data cd and 3 different dvd's (2 bought, 1 burned) and still nothing, it spins, spins waits and ejects. I guess it's time for an apple appt.
