I have recorded several movies onto DVD-Rs using my Panasonic DVD recorder, but I've become worried about the uncertain lifespan of burnable DVDs. I would to be able to transfer some of these files to my big external hard drive, then re-burn them to fresh DVD-Rs when/if necessary. But I only have a Mini with a combo drive. Is is possible to have a Superdrive or other aftermarket DVD burner installed in this thing, and if so how much would it cost?

If I where you i'd go for an external DL-DVD burner.
It will cost you less. Unless you can find a nice deal on the Superdrive, and install it yourself or somewhere without cost. (allthough my idea of the price of the drive and the labor is complete speculation )
And you would be able to use it on any other computer.

LaCie makes a nice DVD burner, but i have no experience with it. I'd choose between these two. Just going on a good reputation :)o again).
