Everytime I set up my AOL and go about my business, I lose my AOL connection If I stay here at the computer and remain active then I remain on AOL. So there must be a setting for when I am idle to disconnect?

Try fully uninstalling it using something like AppZapper and then reinstall and see if that helps.
