I've contributed to numerous posts related to the MobileMe fiasco and stated that I have not been able to send email since July 18. Well, I used a posters link to the chat help for MobileMe and patiently waited my turn (about half an hour).

For the record, I will clarify that I made Absolutely No Changes that would warrant the resulting fix.

After CS (James) asked me to poke around to check various setting through mail then online through MobileMe, we verified the outgoing server settings/name (changed it to .me, not sure that was necessary, though) and most importantly changed the 'outgoing port #' from 25 (I'm pretty sure) to 587 and all has been well the last 2 hours.

I've had my first Mac for about 4 months now, and my .Mac email was setup immediately, automatically and worked flawlessly ever since. So, why on July 18 did my ability to send email cease and the necessary fix (through my desktop mail app) was to change the outgoing server name to .me and change the port # to 587?

I dunno, but figured I'd post what fixed my sending email issue that began July 18. Of course, I lost a bunch of email during that time which is a whole separate issue I can only assume is related to their server update mentioned in the news.

Again, I made absolutely no changes in any way, shape or form that would warrant this fix. I wish everyone luck with getting theirs resolved.

Hope this was helpful.

FWIW - my iWeb publishing issue (beginning July 11) is still unresolved.
