I have an iMac (27" i7 early 2011, 32GB, 250GB SDD, running 10.9.5). I have a second display (Acer 27") running from thunderbolt to HDMI. Yesterday the second monitor started flickering (it does this occasionally for a moment and then resets) and when it reset I found that there is a 2 inch black border around the display. I reset the connection. No luck.

I've tried a different monitor connected to the iMac and it goes back to being full screen, using the same connection that is.

I've tried swapping the cables.

I've tried connecting the "faulty" monitor to a PC tower (through DVI), Xbox (HDMI) and MacBook Pro (Thunderbolt to HDMI) and each time I get a beautiful full screen display.

I've restarted the iMac twice, performed an SMC reset, a PRAM reset, updated mavericks and still I am left with this display problem.

So I've basically tried every solution that I know of and at this point the only foreseeable solution is buying a new display (i need two of the same size for video editing).

Any advice at this point would be muchly appreciated.
