My Moto Rizr: Where's the disk space going?

Hey everyone. I've had a new Rizr for over 2 months now, and I finally took the time to try and get the pics/vids off of it that I took. I dragged the files to a folder and they copied. Every time I try to delete the files from the phone, they delete, or at least seem deleted. The disk space remains the same as before. Same thing with ringtones. I try to drag the files to the trash, and while they seem to disappear from the phone, the disk space remains the same. I'm down to 66.7 MB. I'm afraid to take any more pics/add more ringtones because of losing the space. I've had similar problems with some flash drives in the past, too.

So, what is up with this? How can I fix this? What is wrong? Does it have to do with my iMac?

Yeah, I did. But I went back and was able to empty it again, and now it works fine and everything's back to normal. I never thought I'd have to empty the trash twice to get it to work, though.
