My movies and tv shows aren't transferring to my ipad?

I have converted some movies to mp4 and mov. I've added them successfully to iTunes and they also play so that means they are in the right format but it is'nt transfering to my ipad! And yes, both movies and tv shows tab on the ipad are enabled. They only way it appears on my ipad is with home sharing -__- when my computer is on but when i put it to sleep it disappears. Can anybody help me out?

The easiest way to tell what your doing wrong is by telling us what you are doing, in detail.

Edit: Make sure your iPad's screen is turned on when trying to sync. I tried syncing my new iPad without it being plugged in, and it would only sync if the screen was turned on.
