Hello macrumors!
So as the subject says this will be the third time I send my 2008 MP back for repair (the first time was a faulty superdrive, the second a failed firewire chip, which needed a new logic board)
recently my computer won't display any images when booting up or waking from sleep (about 1/3rd of the time) or having a weird strobing effect on my desktop (flashing on an off then going black, again 1/3rd of the time) and the last third being fine.
The only way round this is putting it back to sleep and waking or a hard reset (in both cases the computer does come on and the HD's whir up) I've already reset PRAM, SMC and did disc checks both in OSX and off OS disc.
I opened up the computer and there are no dust monsters blocking fans/sinks so I don't think it's an overheating issue. Any thoughts? The HD is a third party so I'll have to take it up with them if not.
Also because this is the third time it's been repaired can I ask for a new one? I've already had to turn down an album mix (totalling a couple thousand pounds) worth of work due to this and while I love Apple, I'd love for my computers to work even more!
How many times can I realistically be expected to return this thing? Even the authorised repair guys who do pick up repairs (Amsys in London, they're great BTW) commented on it "Back again?!" when they called to arrange pick up.
Thanks in advance!
Alex.
