My new iPad...slow to respond

Having just gotten my new ipad 3rd gen in the mail, I noticed right away it has lag in activating apps. It will start it up and then there's lag. Anyone else noticing this? Maybe a firmware problem? I used the native Pages and it takes a while to respond to finger typing...voice entry is slow too but it's new and I would expect that it takes a few seconds to process.
