My new MBP froze up and I had to force shut it down by holding down the power button.

Have I done damage to my MBP's hardware by doing this? I had no other choice as the software had become 100% unresponsive.

No no damage, you may have some software that is struggling though.

It's unlikely you did any damage by forcing your Mac off. Most of us have done this at some point, myself included.

everyone has hit that bump at least once in their mac's life. if it keeps happening, then you need to look in to it....
