Any news on the stupid rumours about no 16gb phones in uk for 11th? Don't believe it my self - I pre-registered today at o2 store and was told to get there early to avoid disappointment and to be sure to get the model I want.

Went to my local O2 store Horwich/Bolton Reebok Stadium and was told that existing Iphone user/owners could only get the 3G iphone by ordering online and that an email will be sent out to all that have registered there interest online, how to order, they did say it could be ordered and would be delivered on the 11/07/08. which I find hard to believe so non the wiser as to what is happening.

The first part is what the o2 website has said since WWDC: The second part I find difficult to believe. Apple won't let iPhones into an uncontrolled distribution network and risk 'reviews' on the 10th. No way.

Seeing as Carphone Warehouse is going to have pre reg, O2 could easily do this, via there email system - they already have a preregister interest, i'd imagine this will post something on .. Friday it matt your timings are right (I haven't spoken to any O2 rep for a few days, and things move fast).

If you do pre-register, you should be ok, and you'll have a handset reserved, but just have to wait in line to get it unlocked and registered.
Seeing as they're will be a queue at some O2 stores (but more likely at the main Apple stores moreso than local O2 shops), it may be quicker to get it just after all of those have been served. Lunchtime will be a busy period for htose not able to get in before work. Not necessarily too bad, as people may get up early for the 7.02am opening, giving enough time to buy, and commute. Or just do it after work.
O2 stores didn't run out of stock in the UK opening. They'll be well stocked. Afaik, the only stock problems have been last month or so, which was for completely different reasons. good find on the date :)
Hopefully some more people can get confirmations about CW and O2's pre reg plans for it seems Friday.

im hoping it doesnt take the 20 minutes as quoted by somebody else, thats going to cause loads of delays otherwise, unless they have loads of staff in, but even at my local o2 theres only about 3 computers.

im coming back off holiday on that friday and have to drive home from the airport and probably get back home for about 7am so thats perfect for me really. probably get my iphone, go home and go to bed.

first come, first served? advised to go early?

will they really run out of stock, do you think?

i'm on holiday on july 11th, and come back around the 25th so would rather just wait and do it then, but will shops really run out of stock? and whats that about no white 16gb iphones in the uk? thats the on im after, to match nicely with my white macbook and white ipod :)

I think it's just good sales techniques to whip up a frenzy. It would give a different message if they said "we have loads of stock, so take your time and come along whenever you like". They want queues forming, they want press coverage, and they need people like us to panic and be there at 6am.

I was outside the Apple store in Lakeside when iPhone 1.0 went on sale, queueing for hours. The o2 shop next door had nobody outside it. An hour after I bought my iPhone, the Apple shop had no queue at all. I don't think it will be any worse this time around. (hopefully)

i remember hearing stories last time round in the UK of how carphonewarehouse actually sold the phones before 6pm.

doubt that will be the case this time though seeing as its open and sell straight off.
