So, let me provide some background details. I own a mid-2010 core i7 15-inch Macbook Pro with the 7200 HDD. It has been great to me so far, except for the lack of sleep it gets. I usually leave the lid of the notebook open when it's not in use; the sleep setting is 5 minutes for both computer and screen sleep. However, my computer refuses to sleep after being left alone for 5 minutes. The problem is simple. The solution is not so simple.
The problem started about a week ago (I purchased the computer around the beginning of May).My MBP will sleep when it is closed, when I click the sleep button on the Apple menu, when I click the power button then press sleep, and when I use SleepX.
I brought it in to an Apple genius today to have a look and he concluded that it was an operating system flaw (after resetting the PRAM, SMC, and deleting the SystemConfiguration folder in the preferences folder in the library of "Macintosh HD"). Basically, no fix there.
The obvious next step was to call Apple Care. First, I got a representative who knew nothing of my problem. I was transferred to a senior adviser, who told me to reset the PRAM and SMC. He then told me to delete some plists from my user's library folder. None of this worked. he then told me to disconnect my Airport and printers. Nada. He then told me that his "buddy" (an apple customer service engineer) was going to help me out.
So, I was transferred for the last time. The guy told me to send him a log using the "send to Apple" feature on the "about this Mac" file menu. He then told me to reinstall OSX and call him back if it works. It didn't. So, that's where I stand as of now; I will let you know what happens next.
