Since people have discussed fears of burn in with the OLED screen on the iPhone X, I decided to do almost all black...with some grays lock screen that also gives someone a phone number (which I erased for this post) to call me in case I lose my phone. So far...it's working pretty well, plus maybe I'll see even a minimal battery savings.

Sorry to say, but most likely if someone were to find an iPhone X, they would sell it in the black market. Your just going to end up getting prank calls... It sometimes sucks to live in this world

Cool design with a lot of black to make great use of the AMOLED screen. Also a good idea of having a backup phone # on it in case your phone is lost. My mom does the same thing as well as all her medical stuff (blood type, allergies, etc) in case she's ever in an accident and can't talk.

P.S. thank you very much for your service :)

It kinda sucks that after all these years we now have to look out for screen burn in and ways around it.

Agreed. I remember back in 2010 when I first got my Nexus One and was pretty nervous to even just use my phone at all what with all the reports of screen burn-in on the XDA forums

While I understand there are certain benefits to going OLED over LED, I still think Apples IPS screens on the 7 / 8 were damn near perfect and should have stuck around for a few more years.

Not sure if there's a minor software tweak Apple could do with iOS to mitigate screen burn-in such as having static images shift 1 to 2 pixels every now and then? This way the user wouldn't even notice it and would extend the life of those pixels which are always showing certain OS aspects like the battery icon.

Edit: Samsung does this already with the home button on the S8 - https://www.theverge.com/circuitbre...ng-galaxy-s8-home-button-moves-screen-burn-in

That's not how it works. Using this all the time will likely cause the clock, text and status bar to burn in (if you never unlock your phone).
The best way to do it would be having a wallpaper such that all the text and icons are as hard to read as possible, while also itself being mostly grayscale.

Actually, that's not true. I have already had my iPhone 6 Plus returned to me (by phone call) after leaving it at a restaurant...so it does work, and yes there are still honest people in this world...I'll just have to make sure I don't lose it down at Mar-a-Lago.
