Since now report shows a processor release date of late March, I think Apple might hold a special event to introduce Snow Leopard alongside the new 16-core!!! Mac Pro which probably will ship in about a month if not shorter.
The reason for my prediction is based on the fact that you need an operating system that's optimised for 64-bit multi-core processors to make the most out of it. With dual core, leopard copes well, but 16-core acting together editing your stuff and processing in parallel absolutely requires a new generation Operating System that is optimised for multi-core processing from near scratch.
