I was in the Apple store and I got a chance to play with the new rMBPtb
My first impression is that I don't think the touchbar is a gimmick.
It seemed useful for various applications, and is a nice feature to have. I used while in Safari and it was nice to have Yahoo and so on right there.
CONS:
It did seem kind of annoying to not have standard physical keys for standard things. Having to hit the expansion key to get all the buttons is annoying.
SUMMARY:
Overall I really liked the 13" rMBPtb.
Is it a must for me?
Nah.
But would like it?
Sure.
I wouldn't buy a new rMBPtb since I already have a late 2013 rMBP. It's not a huge upgrade for me personally in terms of my use.
But if I'm a PC man and I want Apple, this is an AWESOME first Mac.
If I have an old MacBook or something, like one of those white ones from back in the day, this would be a treat for me.
