the phone was on my table, working fine all day. i seen it light up so i thought i received a call, instead no sim popped up in service corner and it wont go away? why would this happen?

take out the sim and put it back in to see if that would help.
 
Try shutting your phone off for about 30 seconds.
Start it back up.
If you dont see any signs of a connection being made in the upper left corner, then check your sim bay.


One of the contacts could be slipping on the chips surface...
Dont know why that would happen so soon though, as the phone is BRAND new.
 
tried both..no luck.. this sucks.. iam trying to restore from itunes right now. where will i have to return it to? att where i bought it or apple?

I would go to the Apple Store because they seem to be able to just SWAP the whole phone and possibly accessories for BRAND NEW BOX and let you go.

That has been the case with previous iPhones and iPods
