why not repair it?

i have always been told that running your ipod through disk utility was a bad idea, so i had to ask for clarification.

I have never heard of that, and have always repaired my iPod via disk utility.

I would hope that apple would not create hardware that would be sabotaged by their own software.

I think the problem people talk about with Disk utility is erasing the disk and writing zeroes to it. This puts the little, poorly ventilated iPod hard drives under an unnecessary amount of strain. However, repairing the disk is fine. Do it. :)
