I predict the iPad 2 will bring:

Facetime HD camera
Rear camera- iPhone 4 quality
Dual Core A5 chip 1.2ghz
1gb ram
Thinner, slight redesign, etc.
Improved screen-maybe not Retina but something more than the current so that it can be called "HD"
Thunderbolt port to further spread it

I also believe it will be available friday night or saturday with preorders/reserves available starting tomorrow.

Here are my realistic predictions:

Slightly sleeker design, maybe a different color.
512mb or RAM
Same screen
No more 16gb version (possibly a 128gb version)
Same processor
No new ports
One front facing camera

Facetime camera- given. HD? Maybe

Rear camera- I'm giving that 25% chance

Improved CPU- for sure. Dual core? Reasonable chance

RAM- 512MB for sure, 1GB not unreasonable to expect

Redesign- It wouldn't be an iToy event if Apple didn't play with the design!

Improved screen- I'm saying no. Either x2 or nothing.

Thunderbolt- I'd love that! However, I'm doubtful. Apple don't seem to want the iPad to be a mini-computer quite yet. Rather an extra!

My prediction:

You are going to be flamed because you didnt read 6 threads or so down to see there is already a predictions thread and this one was not needed.

Yup

512mb or RAM

Yup

And then your alarm clock went off?

Considering that the iPad is not meant the be a computer, and Thunderbolt works via PCI-E from what I understand, the chance of iPad2 having Thunderbolt is basically zero.

I predict many more of these posts because all the others are apparently inadequate.

Facetime HD camera = No. Apple will put in VGA camera. iPad doesn't even have 720P resolution. No need for HD camera when the screen doesn't support HD resolution
Rear Camera at 5 megapixel = No. iPod touch 4 camera will be added.
Dual Core Processor= Yes
1GB ram= No. 512 MB ram. Anything more will kill the battery. No need for 1GB ram. Apple will always drag the battery and say it is not needed.

HD Display= No. It's double or nothing.
Thunderbolt Port= Maybe.

  • iPod Touch Front facing Cam – Has to be HD to go with iMovie app they also announce
  • Thunderbolt? How would a socket that large work on something which is supposed to get even thinner
  • Non-glare screen – one last desperate attempt to compete with the Kindle

1GB ram= No. 512 MB ram. Anything more will kill the battery. No need for 1GB ram. Apple will always drag the battery and say it is not needed.

Practically there's no difference in power draw between 512MB and 1GB. Its just the Apple way of doing things - 256MB 1st gen, 512MB 2nd gen, 1GB 3rd gen, so on.

Here are mine:

Facetime HD camera
Dual Core A5? chip 1 ghz
512 mb RAM
Thinner, slight redesign, etc.
New screen ratio
Same prices except 32 gb, 64 gb, 128 gb (599, 699, 799)
iOS 5 preview (new notifications more tablet oriented widgets etc.)

A5 cpu 1.2GHz, no dual core
512mb
Faster graphics, same chip but better
Same res screen, better glass
Front camera
Maybe back camera, but I doubt it
Maybe 128gb version, but I doubt it
Thin, lighter, probably

iPad Eve

'Twas the night before iPad, when all through Jackling House

Not an iDevice was stirring, not even a multi-touch mouse;

The banners were hung on Yurba Buena Center with care,

In hopes that St. Jobs soon would be there;

The children were nestled in black turtle-neck threads,

While visions of FaceTime danced in their heads;

And mamma by her Macbook, and I near my Pro,

Had just settled down for a HD photo,

When up on Macrumors.com I sensed such a clatter,

I sprang from the Launchpad to see what was the matter.

A new Safari window open, I flew like a flash,

Searching for news, scouring through iTrash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen tech

The glow of the Apple, much like a sunset.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a Mercedes SL55, and my eye glints a tear.

With a little old driver, so lively and boss,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Jobs.

More rapid than Thunderbolt, his Geniuses they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Schiller! now, Ives! now, Cook and Forstall!

On, Sewell ! on Williams! on, Mansfield and Johnson!

To the top of the stage! to the top of the screen!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away clean!"

As dry Droids that before the wild Blackberry fly,

Who when they met with an obstacle, just stared to the sky,

So up to the press the Geniuses they flew,

With the Fedex trucks full of iToys, and Steven-Paul too.

And then, while in iTunes, I heard in advance

The dancing and chanting, of all Apple fans!

As I flicked through my iPhone, and was multi-tasking background,

Down the aisle St. Jobs came with a bound.

He was dressed in blue jeans, from his waist to his foot,

And his eyes were filled with such a joyous look;

A bundle of rumors he had carried on his back,

he looked like a madman never looking back.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His desktop immaculate, iTunes so varied!

His scroll was inertial,patents drawn up like pros,

And TimeCapsule so thin ,as white as the snow;

Terabytes and more, forever space to grow.

And the rumors encirlced every young mans dream;

An iPad with dual-cameras, large speaker, and Retina screen!

Could there be more from MobileMe?

Who knows? Perhaps it may even be FREE!

Old tech in the past was bulky and slow.

But our eyes back then thought it was a show!

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke many words, and went straight to presentation,

And filled all the blogs; who then turned to temptation,

And laying his finger aside of touch screen,

And giving a wonderful iGleam, up the marketshare rose;

as the joyous conference came to a close.

And away they all worked for the next iDelight.

and I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,

"Happy iPads to all, and to all a good-night."

Agree completely. Still will be buying it with or without rear camera.

Considering that the iPad is not meant the be a computer, and Thunderbolt works via PCI-E from what I understand, the chance of iPad2 having Thunderbolt is basically zero.

It will be a slave device, not a master. You will use it to hook up to a truck computer.

Same 16, 32, 64, no 128 gig model.
Better display, same resolution.
512, but a gig wouldn't surprise me.
Dual core 1.2 ghz. It will maintain it's speed crown.
A couple of cameras.
Thunderbolt.

I also feel there will be a Sep release.
Quad core.
1 gig ram.
Improved display over Ver 2.
And absolutely a Thunderbolt port if Ver 2 doesn't get one.

Sep release will be because Apple wanted somethig on Ver 2 and it wasn't quite right yet, so insteand of pulling a Motorola, they left it off. It might be the TB port.

Too much win in one post. I applaud you sir.

no point in having 1 gb.
heck xbox 360 still use 512 mb and can play crysis. it all about being limited and how to work with it.

for example crysis come out and can't port to ps3 or 360 because both are weak. then later redesign and can play on em.

it not all about the hardware anymore folks

512mb
A4 or new?
32gb and above (16gb now ipad 1 only and cheaper)
improved screen
cam
thinner
more pretty

I will go ahead and post my predictions for the entire event, along with an arbitrary % of how confident I am.

Dual Core 1.2 A5 (95% chance)
1 GB Ram (for all those safari tabs) (45%; else, 512 MB)
Gyroscope (100%)
VGA Camera (front) iPod Touch camera (back) (80%; 20% chance for iPhone 4 camera)
16/32/64 (95%, with a very small chance of an axing the 16)
Same screen (100%)
(plus the things we know: better speakers + tapered design.)

I think there's also a small chance that there will be only one version with 3G, at the current Wifi prices (10%). If not, the 3G version will get a price cut.

iOS 5 with Dashboard (30%), user accounts for iPad (50%), new notifications, (90%) new MobileMe features including "Find My Friend" or whatever they'll call it (100%). Released this summer.
iOS 4.3 released after the event.

New Mobile Me features (100%)

Free Features:
-All the iOS' social features (95%)
-Streaming of iTunes content you own(10%)

Paid Features:
-Streaming of your own uploaded content (10%)
-Everything else Mobile Me currently offers

I think Apple will probably save the iTunes streaming stuff for later. Their data center's not quite done yet and it would make sense to reveal it at their Sept. Music event. Mobile Me updates will be limited to iOS-related features.

And if we're really lucky, iWork '11, with new versions for OS X, iPhone, and iPad (20%).

That would make a nice event.
