Subject: My Promise Pegasus 2Ji configuration

I purchased the stock Promise Pegasus 2Ji with its 8TB Toshiba disk. I purchased a big honking 16TB Seagate disk. My configuration for these two disks is as follows...

1) The 8TB Toshiba disk will be setup as APFS with a single Container having multiple shared Volumes. Each Volume will be associated with a specific Project; Proj-1, Proj-2, Proj-3, and so on. These Volumes can share the 8TB of space.

2) The 16 TB disk will act as a backup for the 8TB Toshiba disk. To allow this the 16TB will also be configured as an 8TB APFS with the same shareable Volume configuration as for the Toshiba disk. The Volume naming on this 8TB will be Backup-Proj-1, Backup-Proj-2, Backup-Proj-3, and so on. The remaining 8TB will be setup as HFS+ to be used/shared for scratch data and Time Machine backups. The Time Machine requires HFS+ for its backup destination. I may decide to partition this 8TB into two HFS+ file systems; one for Time Machine and the other for scratch data.

3) Using CCC, daily backups of all the Project data on the Toshiba disk will be scheduled. A CCC backup task will be created for each Toshiba Project Volume.

4) The Time Machine will use the Seagate Time Machine HFS+ 4TB partition as its destination. It will be backing up a portion of my Apple installed 4TB SSD. This SSD will be APFS with a single Container holding Volumes; OS, User-Data and Scratch. The aggregate size of the OS and User Data Volumes is not likely to be larger than 1 TB at any time. Time Machine will be configured to exclude the Volumes on the Toshiba, the CCC backups + Scratch HFS+ partition on the Seagate in the 2JI and the internal 4TB SSD APFS Scratch Volume. The Time Machine will backup just the OS and User-Data Volumes. Time Machine creates snapshot files each time it runs so the space consumed by these snapshots will be largely unknown. The system limits these snapshots to be no more than 24 (Time Machine runs every 60 minutes by default).

5) BTW and FYI, the Promise Pegasus 2Ji configuration with these 8TB and 16TB disks weigh some 3.5 lbs (including its SATA data/power cables). :)

If you have any advice for me to adopt a different use strategy please comment. Thanks.... :)
