Hi there,

I just can't get my PlayStation 3 to read the contents of a 500 G Western Digital External Disk.
I formatted the drive in MS DOS (FAT) but it didn't work. The drive does not connect directly to a power source, it gets its energy from the device to which it is connected?
Anyone has any idea of how to solve this problem?
Thanks a lot.

The USB ports on the PS3 may not be powerful enough to power the hard drive. It would be best to put the data on a flash drive or if you have the older fat one like me put in a SD card.

TC400,

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I have already tried with a flash drive and the PS3 reads it (I have a new, slimmer PS3). I wanted it to read the hard drive, because files are getting increasingly bigger (16 G plus), but you are probably right. The PS3 ports probably don't have power enough, which is really annoying.
Best.

Your welcome. Big flash drives are pretty cheap nowadays.

BTW if you want to add me on PSN my gamertag is TC400
:p

Dear TC400,

Can you tell me what PSN is? A way to play games with distant partners? Of course I'd be very happy to add you.
I just bought my PS one week ago and I am new to it. A total rookie
