So i got out of school Wednesday and now im bored. So i decided to mod the iBook G3 i had sitting around. I replaced some of the keys with Powerbook Ti keys, painted the top cover and Removed the paint from the bottom panel so it is see through.

I used Krylon plastic paint for the top and gave it about 5 coats.

I just pushed the plastic apple out and taped it back in.

The paint was excellent and dried in about 5 minutes for each coat.

I used de-naturized alcohol and put the bottom case and in the alcohol and removed the paint with a Brillo pad sponge and a toothbrush.

I learned how to do this thanks to No ice please For posting this link http://geektechnique.org/projectlab/203

I'm really happy with this mod and i hope to do more this summer. I have an empty power mac g4 case and a a 22" ACD case to work on.

Please tell me what you think

Don't do the cube!!! grrrr

It would be cool if the keys are clear but I think those are not painted on.

Not hot about the keys too.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The keys would be cool clear but there white plastic :( You know, i had been second guessing the keyboard and i think I'm going to put it back to all white.

Edit: The power book g4 keys can be stripped ;) i think

Cool! I wish I could do stuff like that during my school holidays. I don't really have any old computers lying around though, except an ancient old Medion XP desktop that is still sadly in use by other members of my family... :p

should'a made the top transparent too

I would have but it would have been one ugly thing. The top is not as cool looking as the bottom.

I went to put the keys back on put i snapped the shift key in half  So its a little less black but still has some in there

I have a spare iBook G3 keyboard if you want it.

I had another top cover lying around so i stripped that (i should have worn gloves) and painted the inside yellow.

Its better than the lavender because it appears glossy and does not have the spray paint feeling. It is still somewhat transparent but its cool.
