No, it's not compatible... the Macbook Air uses a PCIe based SSD. Basically a RAM module that plugs into a little slot.

I snagged this 480gb drive at the same time I ordered my mba (yet to arrive).

Now I'm having a sudden oh **** moment where I'm wondering if it's compatible since I read something about the new stock ssd's being smaller somehow. Anyone? Thanks.

The MacBook Air has never used SSDs in 2.5 inch form factor, so it has nothing to do with new SSDs being smaller - the air has never used drives this big.

The air SSD looks like this:

and currently you cannot buy a new one, as no manufacturer is selling them yet. The only way to get a larger drive is to buy an upgrade when you buy the air.

What a bummer. I should have done more homework apparently. Hopefully I can make do with an external hdd "overflow" drive. Thanks.
