i have just gotten back onto my ibook g4 os 10.4.9 after a night of it being down. there were many issues which it spat out at me including
/code equivalence database opened READ ONLY (R/W failed)
JNL replay journal failed
/securityd[43] exited abnormally: abort trap
/lookupd[50] exited abnormally: hangup
Root Device mounted read only

I ran fsck using single user mode and I am back on.
please explain what might be happening with my kernal or HDD.
I am taking it to the apple store in a few weeks for them to really help me out, but I don't want it to die before that! :(

thanks for the site... i tried it.. so far so good.
restarted 2 times and so far no freak out.
my problem is this has happened before and it just keeps happening.

just the normal things are off.. but it boots up and works just the same as it did before but i tried verifying the disk and got this message:
Verifying volume “Vinyl”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
%)
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Checking volume information.

I can not click on the button which says 'repair disk'

ok.. so i restarted with the install disk in and held shift and it repaired the disk and said that such and such was modified... i verifyed the disk and everything is kosher. thanks for the help and the technical guide!

its an ibook G4 bought August 2005.. I shall ask the genius bar when I manage to get to an apple store... I was worried about it being a bad problem and me just putting "band aids" on it instead of going in for surgery.. how you say.
