I bought a new 30 gb ipod a few months ago. I have limited space on my laptop and I am too cheap to buy an external hard drive.

Is there anyway to download music, load it onto the ipod, and then erase it from my computer without it being erased from the ipod the next time I connect it to the computer?

Thanks for any help

Certainly. If you go into iTunes' preferences, -> iPod and choose "update manually" (or something like that. Don't have my iPod plugged in right now so I can't see), you can then manage all the tunes manually, meaning that you can load them up onto the iPod and then delete them from the computer.

Yeah, but...

Kind of off topic, but you know that external drives are QUITE cheap now, right? About half that (at least) of an iPod.

Or write to CD before deleting them. That way you would at least have a backup in case you dropped or lost your iPod.

I have looked into buying an external. And while they are cheaper than they used to be, it is still one more gadget I'd like to live without.

I have seen them for about $80. Not too cheap with the job I have.

Thanks for the help
