I think that Apple removed the beveled edges so the iPhone would be able to stand up easily on a table for video chat. There are of course other reasons like allotting more space, but I think that this was the main reason.

Makes sense to me. Good observation.

I hope they allow you to do other things with the volume buttons... like use one to take pictures with and the other to turn off and on the flash.

Though it's possible, I disagree. I think that one would use the dock to "stand it up" versus just setting it there. I could be wrong though, just my thoughts.

Welll, I doubt it would be very stable when standing on it's edge like that -I doubt that I'll be trying it with my £500 device very often!

I think the design is supposed to follow the general lines of the iPad and perhaps even the shape of the Unibody MacBook Pros, although I might be stretching it with the latter.

I guess this would work if you're a midget or you have really high tables.

I guess it would work in landscape. Portrait would cover the speaker and bottom mic.

Maybe, but a likelier reason is that they made it thinner. If they kept the edges rounded, they would have significantly less interior volume in which to stuff a battery. By squaring the edges, they can make the iphone thinner and still put a larger battery into it.

I said that in the post that you quoted.

Will the game center launch with the new iPhone? You'd figure that Apple would show how the camera would interact with the app. We know that the game center has front camera integration in the 4.0 software.
