i have a three year old (intel-based) iMac Core Duo (32-bit).
the SuperDrive failed, and have since bought an external. Everything was fine, until the dead superdrive caused some annoying sound issues, so i had it removed. ever since then, however, the disc drive fan has been running at 5200RPM nonstop. it is driving me insane, and have no idea how to fix it. any suggestions on what to do? i've tried several fancontrol apps, so don't point me to any of those.

For a weird reason my iMac (aluminium 2008) began to make a really loud noise produced by the fans. We made it repaired and it appeared there was so much dust that it effected the thermometer. It was weird cause the place where the mac stands looks pretty dust free, but apparently it isn't. So it could be that there's is too much dust. You could open the mac yourself and blow it clean. Or you could blow air through the vents on the back. Maybe it will help.
