My Trash Bin filled but not still shows empty

My Trash bin looks empty but when you open it has trash. How do I get it to visibly look full?

Maybe I did not make my self clear. The trash bin looks empty on the dock but when you open it, it can either be filled or empty. How do I get the trash bin to look filled when there is trash in the bin?

Did you mess around with the icons, using Candybar, or just manually?

1. Repair permissions.

2. Restart your Mac.

That should fix it.

Try this

Find your com.apple.dock.plist file
(Mine is in Users/MyUserName/Library/Preferences -- OS 10.5.8)
Move that file to the Desktop, and Restart.
If Trash is behaving, toss that file in there off of the Desktop.
Restarting should make a new one in Preferences.
