after plugging it into a pc the usb thumb drive is no longer working. None of my macs even acknowledge it in their finder. what can I do? PLease help

It is possible that the USB drive is in the wrong format. If you want to use this USB drive on Mac and Windows operating systems, format it to FAT32 (you can do it in disk utility).
If it appears in the Disk Utiltiy try reformatting it as already mentioned, if it doesn't reformat without error or it doesn't appear in there at all its most likely broken
