I'm not sure if anyone has posted this before, but it's useful to me so I thought I'd share.
If you're school email address automatically downloads that huge (15,000+ emails) public folder that you can't control, I have a solution that will still allow you to send/receive in the Mail app.
1. You need an email like gmail or hotmail (anything that allows Imap import)
2. Route your .edu email to that inbox (in gmail, i have a tag for school emails in my school color so it stands out.)
Now go to the Mail app.
1. Setup a new account for your school address with the settings your school recommends.
2. Now, start syncing the mailbox just to make sure it works.
3. Anytime after that, just right click the school INBOX and select "take account offline".
After this, your emails will be RECEIVED through gmail/hotmail/etc..., and you still have the option to SEND from the .edu address when you compose a new email.
