Look at the iPhones on this page.

What are the holes above the ear speaker? My iPhone 4S doesn't have these.

I might be an idiot, seems to be only on the white iPhones.

Mine is black, so maybe the white iPhones have weird black openings above the speaker. Is that for the sensor for faces?
 
They are only visible on the white version but are still there on the black one. It is still covered by glass so it isn't really a hole
 
Both Black and White has them. It is the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor. Of course it is visible on White. But if you put your black iphone under a bright light you will see it.
 
Proximity / Ambient Light sensor. You can see it on a black iPhone at an angle or in direct sunlight.

LOL, you haven't seen a white iPhone 4/4S in person have you? I wouldn't call you an idiot, that is a little harsh. But you must not pay attention too much...
