He was going to mug you, but saw there were two of you, and decided he wasn't up the the added challenge.
 
My first thought when reading that was he followed you two home.

But don't delve into that, just an outsiders opinion, not trying to scare you.
 
I agree with the above but really? You validate this with "Sent from my iPhone" being in his sig?
