If the only feature I need from a fresh jailbreak is MyWi what Cydia level of install would I then use?
I guess I'm sort of just looking for a 'Cydia Lite', so to speak.
When Cydia asks me to download either the essential updates or simply all of them would only the essential updates allow MyWi to work?

Yeah. Cydia won't do any harm at all. If it bothers you that much, find a way to hide the icon.

My question is if MyWi is worth it at this point. If itether/tetherme (or some other app) come out with a way to just enable the hotspot feature in 4.3, then it seems like the $20 for MyWi is pretty steep. On the other hand, I like the idea of MyWi+ondemand for an instant iPad connection. What are your guys thoughts on the situation? Seems to me a wait-and-see game is in order at least until a JB for windows is out.

Youre either jailbroken or not. No lite or minimal jailbreak

I see where Cydia offers though the full update or an essential update.

In the past the more repos I added my iPhone seemed to not run as fluidly as before.

I thought perhaps the essential update (offered only when the jailbreak/Cydia install is fresh) would not be as complete as the complete.

You're either wet or dry
You're either dead or alive
You're either jailbroken or you have a phone homosexuals use.

More repos only slow down cydia loading not the whole phone.

Everything I'm reading rings true but I ask myself: Why does Cydia then allow for a choice between updates on a fresh install?

Why not only offer Complete Update vs Essential?

Logic would dictate the less I alter my iPhone via a jailbreak probably the better. I believe what I'm reading above, no disrespect involved to those more knowledgeable, now my inquiry is only out of a curiosity.

If you just install MyWi you'll be fine either updating some, all or none of them. Up to you, don't be so anal about it.
It's not such a big deal, they are updates for cydia and the way it runs and installs things.

Good to know. Thanks for clarifying this for me.

Years ago there was a way to enable Tethering without jailbreaking; just that hole has been patched. Would love it if there was a way to redo that hack but maybe only while the phone is tethered. I know it's a long shot, but if they could, I'd love it.
