hi im new to macs and am looking to purchase my 1st one(making "the switch")...im getting into video editing and mac just seems to be the platform...the deal im looking @ is a 4 month old G4 1g dual processor with a 22 monitor for 4300...is this a good deal??comes with an Nvidia card 1.5 SDram 80g hd applecare fcp3 etc....i know that apple has a newer gen out that is DDR and L3 cache...is the newer architecture that much better?? or is the past generation nearly as good and im getting a good deal...thanks for any advice

independant tests show that the old 1g and the new 1g (1g models ONLY) have almost equal perfromance.

the reason is the old models have 2MB L3 cache v 1MB in the new ones.

It is a very very good deal. You may want to later u/g the card as the newer ones offer significant improvements in most grpahically instansive operations (i.e. quake).

but seeing as you are getting an LCD i dont think that matters much.

Go and get it.
