Hi everyone. I've been lurking on these forums for about a week and I finally decided to post :)

So here's my question:

I finally decided it's time to upgrade my PowerBook and get a Macbook and in light of how strong the Canadian Loonie is doing (I'm from Canada obviously), I have been comparing the US prices. It turns out that it is cheaper to buy in USD and I take the occasional trip to Detroit so it's not any extra in gas for me to buy there. Here are my two problems:

1. I'm a student and I qualify for the Educational discount here in Canada. I've called Apple and they can't guarantee it will work but they have told me to try this down in the States to see if they'll honour the discount there too. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate it.

2. And this is the big one...from what I understand, goods under $1600 USD, made in the US are not subject to any duties when bringing into Canada. I've done some googling and I'm still pretty confused about this. Is anyone able to verify or clarify this?
