My wife just got a used iBook. She would like to change the name of the computer. When you click on Finder in the left column under places -
The computer has the name of the previous owner.

Method A:
- Go to Systems Preference.
- Select Accounts.
- Create a new account in her name.
- Log into that new account.
- Delete the old user's account.

Method B:
- If you have the install disks, erase the HD and do a clean install.
- If not, consider purchasing Tiger or Leopard and erasing the HD and doing a clean install.

Personally recommend Method B since it will provide you a clean environment.

maybe it's not the computer name -

it's the name after the house under places after I click on finder.

Sorry, I misread your original post. You're right, it's not the computer name, but rather, the account (or user) name.

To reiterate what sushi said, it's probably a better idea to perform an Erase and Install to start with a clean slate, or at the very least, create a new user (with admin privileges) and delete the current one.
