For whatever reason whenever I type my name properly instead of John Smith for example I will get to the end and it autocorrects to JOHN SMITH.

I can't seem to find how how to fix this because no whenever I type my name I have to press X on the autocorrect bubble.

I tried going to TextEdit and typing JOHN SMITH, right clicking but there is no option for unlearn. Conversely I typed John Smith and right clicked and no option for learn.

I checked Local Dictionary in Spelling but it isn't listed there.

My iPhone does not do this to my name

How do I fix this?

Thanks

A few other things to check:

1. While in Contacts: Your card, click Edit and scroll—at the bottom you may see a gray “Found in Apps” or “Siri Suggestions” section. If anything shows your name in caps, hover and click Remove (or ⌫). macOS re-uses these hints for autocorrect
2. Also in Contacts, do a search and make sure there is not a duplicate of your name in there. I was just checking why directions, and I found two other cards with my name that got added sometime!
3. If you ever mailed yourself (or someone with the same name) in caps, Mail remembered it. Open Mail. Choose Window/Previous Recipients/Search for your address or name, highlight any entry in ALL CAPS, and hit Remove From List/Quit and reopen Mail
4. Toggle auto-caps off/on: /System Settings/Keyboard/Input Sources/ … Edit. Turn Auto-capitalization off, type your name once, turn it back on. This sometimes forces macOS to relearn the word. Also, Flush the user dictionary: open ~/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary in TextEdit, delete any lines that read “JOHN SMITH” (if present), save, and log out/in.

Try this: Create a text-replacement with your name proper. See if it reverts back.

Last:Safe-mode reboot: restarting in Safe Mode, then normal mode, clears some caches that can keep the bad entry alive
