Nanoleaf today updated its Lines LED Light Bars to add a new configuration that allows the lights to be arranged at 90 degree angles using new square Mounting Connectors. The Lines Squared can be set up around door frames and corners, and new geometric shapes are possible.

The new 90 degree connectors can be paired with the existing 60 degree connectors, allowing for many new design options. For those unfamiliar with Nanoleaf lights, the Lines can be connected together to form wall art in any shape you desire. The LED lights are capable of displaying more than 16 million colors, with different color-shifting patterns also available.

The Lines are HomeKit-enabled and can be controlled with Siri and through the Home app, plus there is a dedicated Nanoleaf app where you can set up lighting scenes and sync the lights to music.

Like the original Lines lights, the Lines Squared serve as a Thread Border Router, allowing for improved connections and reliability for other Thread-compatible smart home devices.

Lines Squared can be pre-ordered from the Nanoleaf website for $100 for a four pack. Expansion packs with three Lines are also available for $70.

Awesome. This may be what gets me into ambient lighting. I've never been a fan of light-up panels, but these bars look great.

Edit: Was unsure these even existed until today and this is an update. Neat.

Avoid Nanoleaf, as a company their essential product lines are iffy and customer support blows.

Don't have to believe me, just check their Reddit history :) I was given multiple lemons and the company "gave feedback to the devs" instead of replacing them.

I recently purchased 6 of the Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs, a light strip, and some of the mini triangles to add to the rest of my HomeKit gear. So far, everything from Nanoleaf has been great. My preference is to use Lutron switches and Hue bulbs and smart plugs, but the Nanoleaf bulbs were on sale, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did, as they are way more affordable than Hue and work great when hooked up using Thread instead of Bluetooth.

Stay away from Nanoleaf. Back in the day, they were a decent company, now - crap. I have an Aurora that went through months of issues that nobody at NL could figure out. Nothing fixed it. I gave up. Their app update a couple years back for the WORSE. Their products are severely over priced and the support is terrible. STAY AWAY!

Interesting you say this. My initial Nanoleaf stuff was really flaky. a19 bulbs that just stopped working were the biggest thing. Recently they've all seemed to work—at least the ones with thread. i wonder if they just made really bad batches at first.

Not sure I get the appeal of these 🤷‍♂️

What I would really like to see is some of the other companies that manufacture LED *strips* to include 90-degree adapters. Unfortunately they don't, and the aftermarket ones seem to get mixed reviews. I fail to see how these light strips are at all useful if you can't make turns with them??

While I really like some of their products these don’t appeal to me that much. The couple triangles, hexagon and elements in my house do work smoothly though, once I have the scenes I want in Home I rarely go visit the original app.

I've had quite the opposite experience. When I've had an issue, they've promptly replaced hardware and solved the issue for me.

It’s funny how two different people can have two radically different experiences. My Nanoleaf installation has worked flawlessly and customer support was very helpful (I made a mistake by buying the wrong power adapter because they don’t have a B2C outlet in my country so I had to import it).

On the other hand, I had a terrible experience with Hue and Philips in general, to the point where I’ll never purchase their products again.

Either way, sorry you had a bad experience with Nano! Hope you find a solution!

The individual segments are too short. This looks cluttered with all the square connectors in the longer lines.

Is it just me, or does it seem like it would be nearly impossible to have rooms lighted up the way you see in those pictures, with natural daylight coming through the windows? Especially that second picture, where the daylight can be seen streaming across the carpet, but the room itself is in darkness other than brilliantly glowing LEDs.

the layout in that first image must cost a fortune. i count 12 pieces required to create that shape?

I know I'm going to flamed not being on the hype train but these looks something straight from r/diWHY, makeshift plastic tube with leds

I agree too.
This picture also shows a $600 dollar setup; quite expensive is you ask me.
