NAS or Airport extreme

Hi guys, I just bought a 2011 MPB 15" 2.0 and I have a desktop PC at home with about 1.5 TB worth of data on it, I'm trying to figure out the best storage/networking solution for my situation.

I need to decide between a NAS system and Airport extreme w/ external HDD's attached.

Which do you think would be best for file sharing between devices, backup, easy of access etc?

If you plan to keep the desktop, you can save some money by making the disk shareable on your network
