It should only show up there if you pay for tethering. I used to pay for the AT&T $45 plan, and mine looked like yours. When I stopped, the tethering selection in settings went away.

pay plan

It only shows up on the settings page there if one pays for it, otherwise it is relegated to a secondary screen.

Mine has been there since on release day and I have used it many times since. I'm on ATT and pay for the tethering. Used it in my ip4 too.

Seems like he's using an unlocked 4S on Tmobile.
I guess he didnt have the option before and I dont know how you could enable or activate it cause there's no iphone tethering package on Tmobile but cool that he has it now for free.
Only thing that sucks is trying to tether on Edge speeds.

Hi,
I am moving to a new job in one month and the company pays a room + bathroom for me where I can live and sleep after work. The problem is, I can't have internet there, no cable or wlan connection possible. So I was thinking about buying a new mobile phone :) Now I found this thread about native hotspot.

My questions:
1) Will I be able to use the new iPhone 4S from T-Mobile like a WLAN hotspot and can I connect my Macbook Air with it?
2) I think the traffic from T-Mobile is limited, what happens if I am over the limit? Do I have to pay for the extra traffic or is only the download speed slower then?

Today is Sunday, no T-Mobile Store is open and next week I will work late. Therefore I hope you can answer my questions or show me some links about this topic.

Thank you, much appreciated.

It shows up on all iPhones. My friend has AT&T. He bought the 200mb data plan (no tethering) and it says mobile hotspot (when I click on it, it asks me to UPGRADE his data plan) :D

Maybe he lives in the UK, where they support the iPhone on T-Mobile

EDIT: NVM I SEE THE EDGE

if ur in the states and ur lookin for a cell phone/hotspot ur best bet would be to get a cheap tmobile 3g/4g android phone and get this unlimited web/text +100 min voice prepaid plan
u get 5gb of high speed 3g/4g then after the 5gb ur speed will be throttled to edge
5gb should be enough for normal browsing

No bashing but personal hotspot has been on Android phones for ages. To claim that 4S didn't have it out-of-box is funny.
