Brand new iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16.2

I’m using the native Mail app and I’m not receiving notifications. The only thing I’m getting is the app badge. As you can see in the photo, I have notifications set up for Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners.

Is this a bug or am I missing something simple here? As I said, all I’m getting is the app badge. No notification sound, either.

Have tried toggling off the notifications for Mail and then toggling back on - no help. Tried re-starting the phone, no help.

Hi.

Have you tried going into the “Customize Notifications” section at the bottom of the screenshot? From memory, I believe you need to turn on alerts, etc in that section on a per account basis.

That fixed it. Thank you

Although, I don't see the point of that "Customize Notifications" thing. I don't get it ... ? That setting is really buried in there. Is this new with iOS 16?

Excellent!

I guess it’s for people who have a number of different email accounts, but don’t necessarily want notifications from all of them. Personally, I don’t think Apple’s implementation is all that intuitive - you’d expect to receive notifications from the settings you set on the page in your screenshot. In my opinion, at the very least they need to label it as “Customize Notifications Per Account” or even add a short explanation on the page to explain that you need to go into “Customize Notifications” to enable them on a per account basis.

It’s definitely been there since iOS15. With how quickly time goes, it may have even been iOS14 or earlier!

It's been there for ages; it allows us to set different notification alerts for different email accounts.

It's another one of those things that Apple have been doing over the last few years (across both iOS and MacOS) that really isn't intuitive. It should default to setting all notifications to the same (as set in the screenshot above) and then allow them to be modified in the settings further below.

It's the same on MacOS. Every notification in the OS is configured in Settings. Apart from Mail. Which, until very recently*, also didn't respect the Focus settings.

* It might still not be fixed; I've not tested it.
