Native UNIX VPN making on OSX

Hi! I recently heard that it was possible to create a VPN with Terminal commands on OSX.
My reaction : AMAZING!
My question : HOW??!?!

I'm trying to do this because I hope it will enable me to play games with friends on mac or windows through virtual LAN from the VPN. Problem is I don't know anything about this, that's why I'm asking!
Any comments/hints/help greatelly appreciated!
