I haven't heard anyone talking about the navigation app the new iPhone might have. I'm curious since Android is using google nav. w/voice guided if Apple doesn't have something up their sleeve as well.

With the two companies bickering back and forth, I wouldn't be surprised to see something different and better on the next iPhone.

Why do you need a free turn by turn navigation when you have folders and multitasking?

I wish 4.0 would have included some way to set default apps for certain things like navigation. That way you could tell your phone "Navigate to wherever" via the built in voice search it would know to use whatever GPS app you have installed.

That doesn't really make sense. Why do you need a free app? Because it's....um.....free. Why pay $70 for something that's free?

I think he was joking...or at least I hope so. That's sort of like saying "who needs MMS when you're getting a compass!" Speaking of, what ever happened to all those cool apps that would come from having the compass.

I doubt that any Google nav app would have a heads-up 3D view, but I'm willing to be surprised.

Assuming the new iPhone has the same improved GPS chip as the iPad 3G, it's going to be a fantastic platform for navigation, especially once the 4.0 OS is released, and nav apps can be re-written to run in background.

Apple was rumored to be working on their own "in house" navigation app. I'm not worried about the google app. IMO, it would be a great time and market for Apple to one up google.

I'm too lazy to find the MR write up, but I remember reading it.

I really hope that they give us something good, I want a nav for the car, but I am waiting until the new phone, because I would really prefer not to buy both.

They did purchase a map company last year. I too am hoping it is in 4.0. I do like the ease and familiarity with GoogleMaps but then again - Apple has always shined with making great apps.

I really hope this is true...

If not TomTom is getting $150 from me... and I alredy own one...

but it has no lane guidance, no traffic updates, and its missing many other features... its only one year old lol. At the time I got it I never knew that traffic would become such a big deal in my county...

stupid highway 101 in northern California.... They start construction work and everyone has to slow down to 25mph to see the truck dump a **&^ pile of dirt.
