iPhone X Navigation. Screen locks

i used apple maps for navigation for the first time today. Apparently, the screen will time out for apple maps but not google. And lock the screen.

I mount my phone in landscape, so the screen locked and when I turn it back on it’s locked ij portrait.

And I can’t unlock from landscape because faceID doesn’t work in landscape.

So I have to unmount my phone, turn it portrait, swipe up, all while looking at the phone because of attention aware.

Wtf. Worst apple Interface issue I’ve had yet.

Any way around this?

Definitely report that to Apple. That’s a definite issue to be addressed.
