Do I need a 3g model to use Navigon gps app??

Assuming you mean navigation? Yes, you need to have 3g coverage or WiFi for the satellite to figure out where your at and where your going.

So i will need a 3g model in order to use gps apps?

This is iPad I'm talking about, can i just get base wifi model and run navigation(gps) apps is my question?

My iphone can use navigation without using any data at all.

App is question is Navigon

Think I've read somewhere that you need the 3G version iPad to use GPS. I've read somewhere else though, that you can teether from your iPhone 4 to your iPad to use GPS. But I'm not completely clear on what works and what doesn't. I have Navigon too, so I might try it out someday.

The simple answer is no. The wifi only model does not come with a GPS chip. (Not to be a prick, but a simple browse of the Apple website would've answered your question.)

If you tether a wifi only model with an iPhone, you will get intermittent GPS signals every 30 - 60 seconds in my experience. But that's hardly sufficient for a navigation app. For navigation, you'll want a dedicated GPS chip, which is only available in the 3G model.
